St. Paul had another congregational meeting today regarding the best way to meet its facility needs. The council had the impression that the congregation was not ready yet to vote on the resolution that has been offered for the congregation to consider: “Be it resolved that St. Paul Lutheran Church move forward with the plan to expand our ministries and establish a dual site for those ministries, doing building renovation on the present site and establishing a second site.”
Instead, congregation members had an opportunity to raise questions they would like to have answered. Answers will be researched and offered the members of the congregation in written form. During May at least one open forum will be held so that members of the congregation can ask for further clarification and offer their comments. At this point, the council expects to vote on the resolution on Sunday, May 31.
An older member of our congregation expressed a concern that I share. “I don’t think we should vote on such a major issue unless a larger number of congregation members are involved in the decision,” she told me after the meeting.
This member went on to say, “Youth and families with young children who we often focus on when we talk about expanding our ministries. Those are the people who should be there to help us make this decision.”
I am going to try my best to keep sharing information regarding this issue with our members. I expect that the council and the facility needs team will strive to do the say.
I’d like to ask all our members to do two things. First, make sure that you are well-informed on this issue. Read the information on this blog and that which is sent out to the congregation in the coming weeks. Ask yourself, what does the Scripture say to help guide us with this decision. Attend any open forums that are offered. And secondly, make it a point to be at the meeting on May 31. May God continue to guide us in this important decision.
