St. Paul Lutheran is in the midst of a discussion about the best way to expand its church facilities. The congregation has already voted by an overwhelming majority that the need to expand its facilities does exist.
At the annual meeting on March 22, Jim Nord, our church consultant, presented a detailed report on his findings regarding the needs of our congregation and the options for meeting those needs. A summary of the slides used for the report can be found on our church website here.
At the conclusion of Mr. Nord's report, members of the Facility Needs Team and the Church Council had the opportunity to tell the congregation why they had come to the unanimous conclusion that Option 3 in Mr. Nord's report was the was the option they were recommending that the congregation pursue. This option would be to renovate and reuse the current facilities for expanded programs best suited for in town and relocate and expand other programs to a new site.
In this option, the Christian Preschool, Christian Day Care, Youth, Senior and Social ministries would be located on the present site. A new site would be developed on land the congregation owns on the corner of Highway 92 and the Silver City road. Worship, children's and adult education, fellowship and hospitality and music would be located at the second site. Senior housing might also be eventually included there.
We would like to gather comments and questions from the congregation regarding this recommendation. The goal is to create a dialog among members of the congregation and community. Just click on the comment link at the bottom of the page. There are just a couple of rules: 1) comments must be civil—any comment that slips into name-calling or disparages other people will be deleted; 2) Each comment should be signed so that everyone take responsibility for his or her own opinion.
I would encourage you to check back frequently to find out what others are saying.
So tell us what you think. We want to hear and we want the congregation to know what is being said. I am hoping that we will have a spirited and thorough discussion. Let the conversation begin!
